Lt. Col. James Harvey was a Tuskegee Airman and part of the first team to win the Top Gun competition.

Lt. Col. James Harvey finished combat training in 1945.  He was within an hour of leaving for Europe when he received the message to hold.  The war was over. Lt. Col. Harvey says that when Hitler knew that he was on the way, Hitler gave up.

There clearly was racism in the military at that time. The 1925 Army War College’s assessment of the Negro Soldier makes Lt. Col. Harvey angry every time he reads it. So he decided that he would be the best. And he was.

He and his group won the 1949 Top Gun Competition. You’ll be fascinated with his story of the competition and his accomplishments.
